Who are you and what kind of content do you create?

We’re Molly and Matt! We quit our jobs to travel in March 2019, and somehow we have made a job out of it! It still amazes us to this day that we are able to travel and earn money at the same time! It was definitely intimidating, to begin with, we had all the gear and no idea! We didn’t really know how to use a camera, how to vlog, or edit and all of this had to be taught alongside both of us working full time! We invested a lot of money into our equipment and originally these videos were made just for our families to watch online, we had no idea that this was going to be successful!

Our name just came to us, obviously. Travel was going to be incorporated. Dabble is a word that means to do something or to do a little of something and Matt actually used to say it all the time so it just came to us, it's quite nice that it has a specific meaning to both of us!

Let's go down memory lane, tell us your backstory!

We have been together for 4 years, during that time Molly really didn’t want to travel and was just enjoying going on the holidays as and when we could! Matt really wanted to travel, we compromised as Molly said she’d go if she didn’t have to backpack (lol)!!

Neither of us has any background in content creation, Matt worked as a Postman and Molly in Customer service, they weren’t jobs we wanted to do full time, they literally paid for us to go on holiday! We only upload to Youtube and Instagram at the moment, we know that lots of people use Facebook and Tiktok, maybe we’ll use them too!

Nowadays, most people watch Youtube or Netflix rather than normal TV, and we watch so many Youtubers, not just on travel! We love Youtube and think that it’s such a great place to learn literally ANYTHING!

How do you brainstorm ideas for your content and your advice in getting the creative juice flowing.

Believe it or not, we actually get inspiration from our subscribers, our followers on Instagram, and wherever we are at the time! As we travel, certain things just happen and that can then give you the content for more than one video! We hardly ever plan our videos, we just go with the flow!

What are the tools and platforms you use to help with your brand?

We use Final Cut Pro for video editing, photoshop, and lightroom for photo editing! We actually taught ourselves how to use these, on youtube watching tutorials! Youtube is so helpful!

What were your fears starting out? How did you handle it?

We were both so nervous in front of the camera, I think it just feels really unnatural talking to a camera and addressing it as a person! Now it does feel really natural, there are certain times when you’ll get stared at whilst vlogging, but you do get used to it!

We were also nervous about our friends seeing our videos because it wasn't something anyone that we knew of had done! They’re really supportive and love to see what we get up to on Youtube!

We are lucky enough to not get that many negative comments, but when we do, we just ignore them! It’s not important to us what people have to say unless its constructive criticism regarding our videos!

How did you build your brand to where it is now, take us through your process.

Building the brand takes time and at the beginning, we were literally just traveling and posting videos for our family, so there wasn’t much thought of building a brand! We spent most of our money traveling to amazing places and to be honest we never actually thought we’d be anywhere near where we are today! We were posting a video as and when it was edited and the wifi was strong enough, we had no real structure and we didn't even post every day! Instagram has been the hardest thing for us to build up as we weren’t originally advertising our Instagram, now of course we are but at the beginning, we literally were just traveling the world for 3 months!

For someone who wants to get into content creation, what is your advice?

Go for it. You don’t have to invest in great equipment you just have to offer something that people are going to want to watch!

With the knowledge we have now, we definitely wouldn’t have booked all of our flights and hotels, this was a shame for us in our first time traveling because we ended up spending a really long time in places we could have spent less time and vice versa! Anything can happen and it's better to not have your whole trip booked and paid for just in case you want to go somewhere else or leave earlier than expected! criticism regarding our videos!

How didyou finally commit to X platform rather than your regular day job?

We had already quit our jobs to travel but had no plan to not go back to employment! We had saved all of our lives to travel and spent our money wisely so it was pretty easy to commit!

Tell us your best milestones in being a content creator.

Reaching 100,000 subscribers was unbelievable for us! We would never have guessed we’d be in this position now and we are so grateful!

What are your marketing strategies to grow your brand?

We wouldn’t say we necessarily have any strategies, like I’ve said it was pretty natural and organic, we let it grow by itself just by posting, and we’re so grateful that we are in the position we are in now! We do everything ourselves, from advertising, emails, setting up pages, etc, and it’s a lot for two people but we absolutely love it and wouldn’t change it for the world!

How do you handle brand deals and sponsorships?

We didn't reach out to brands until this year! Some collaborations happened because we were in the right place at the right time, for example working with Holiday Inn! We now reach out to companies that means it will be mutually beneficial, whereby we can actually offer something that will benefit them! We only pick brand deals that we support, like if it's something we use already or something that we think, this is amazing!  When handling brand deals you should make sure that it is something your audience will be interested in, if not then there really isn't any point!
